China Q1 Gold consumption edges up to 322.99 tons: CGA

The country's purchase of gold jewelery rose by 30.2% year-on-year to 232.53 tons in the first quarter of 2014 while consumption of gold bars slumped by 43.56% to 67.95 tons.

BEIJING (Bullion Street): China's gold consumption rose by 2.45 tons or 0.76% year-on-year to 322.99 tons in the first quarter of 2014, the latest data released by the China Gold Association (CGA) showed on Wednesday.

The country's purchase of gold jewelery rose by 30.2% year-on-year to 232.53 tons in the first quarter of 2014 while consumption of gold bars slumped by 43.56% to 67.95 tons.

Gold consumption in Industrial sector recorded a rise of 5.56% over a year ago with 14.24 tons.

Gold production in China, during the first quarter of 2014, rose by 6.592 tons or 7.3% year-on-year to 96.5 tons, the association said.
