Peru produces nearly 15 tons of Gold, 283 tons of Silver in April

However, for the first four months of this year, gold decreased 6.97% from 57,837,264 grams (1,859,511 ozs) in 2012 to 53,807,535 grams (1,729,952 ozs).

LIMA(BullionStreet): Peru produced nearly 15 tons of gold and 283 tons of silver in April this year, registering yearly gains of 6.19 and 2.53 percent respectively.

According to country's Mines and Energy Ministry, Gold production increased from 14,040,384 grams (451,408 troy ounces) in April 2012 to 14,909,355 grams (479,346 troy ounces) in April 2013.

However, for the first four months of this year, gold decreased 6.97% from 57,837,264 grams (1,859,511 ozs) in 2012 to 53,807,535 grams (1,729,952 ozs).

Silver output was also down 0.89% for the first four months of this year from 1,129,635 kilograms (36,318,609 ozs) from January to April in 2012 to 1,119,610 kilograms (35,996,297 ozs).

Peru's copper production rose 5.46% to 100,631 tons from a year earlier while iron production increased 25.39% to 618,743 tons in April, while tin production declined 17.23% to 1,641 tons.

Copper production for the first four months of this year rose only 0.4% to 393,231 metric tons, compared to 391,678 metric tons for the same period of last year.
