Singapore to unveil Native Orchid silver coins

Singapore Mint announced the launching of 2011 Native Orchid of Singapore Coins at the opening ceremony of the 20th World Orchid Conference on November 13.

SINGAPORE (BullionStreet) : Singapore Mint announced the launching of 2011 Native Orchid of Singapore Coins at the opening ceremony of the 20th World Orchid Conference on November 13.

In a statement, The Singapore Mint said the coins will be the first to bear a special semi-rimless design which gives the flowers a three-dimensional effect.

It will feature two orchids commonly found in Singapore - the Grammatophyllum speciosum or Tiger Orchid, and the Cymbidium finlaysonianum, an orchid species seen growing on trees along the roads of Singapore.

The silver proof coins are 40.7mm in diameter at 31.10 grammes and can be purchased as a two-in-one set at $300 or as individual coins at $148.

The event will be held at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre. They will also be on sale at Singapore Mint retail outlets.
