The Perth Mint has recently started sales for special edition versions of the 2013 Sydney Opera House Gold and Silver Coins from “The Land Down Under” series. The special edition coins feature the same designs as coins released last month, but are in larger sizes and carry smaller maximum mintages.
The silver coin features the Sydney Opera House with a background image of fireworks framed within a map shape of Australia. The previous release was for a 1 oz. proof version of the coin carrying a limited mintage of 5,000. The new special edition release is a 10 oz. proof coin with a limited mintage of 750 pieces.
The gold coin features an image of Sydney Opera House and the harbor. The previous version was for a 1/4 oz. proof gold coin carrying a mintage limit of 1,000 pieces. The new special edition version is for a 2 oz. proof gold coin carrying a mintage limit of 200 coins.
These two coin precede a batch of new product releases which will go on sale on Thursday. For collectors in the United States, sales for the upcoming releases will begin on February 28, 2013 at 11:01 AM ET.
Some highlights from the products scheduled to go on sale on Thursday include the third release within the Australian Opal series, which will feature the Kangaroo. Previous releases of the series which have featured nocturnal Australian animals created in pure Opal have been well received. Also scheduled for release on Thursday is the next release of the Australian Antarctic series which will celebrate the Aurora Australis or the “Southern Lights.”
